Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons butter (for frying and gravy)
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk; let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef, grated onion, egg, garlic powder, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Shape mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place on a plate.
  4. In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides (about 6–8 minutes). Transfer to a plate.
  5. In the same skillet, melt remaining butter; whisk in flour to form a roux. Gradually add beef broth until smooth.
  6. Stir in heavy cream; simmer until thickened (about 5 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Return meatballs to skillet; simmer for another 10 minutes until cooked through.
