  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 ounces unsalted butter, very cold
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, baking powder, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Cut the cold butter into small pieces and incorporate it into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse meal.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the egg, cream, and vanilla. Add to the flour mixture along with chocolate chips and pecans; stir until just combined.
  5. Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently to form an 8-inch disc.
  6. Cut the disc into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Brush each scone with beaten egg wash and bake for 18 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow cooling slightly before sprinkling with confectioners’ sugar.
